watched the Campus food show on tv yest, and they were introducing NUS's food.
so since its my alma mater, shall squeeze in a few comments abt the food they featured.
the yong tau foo stall is really very crowded, and was featured in the Straits Times too. but it doesnt really impress me much leh. prob coz its really cheap i guess. sum pple like the sauce, but i tink it tastes like those normal yong tau foo sauce u get outside leh. sum pple like the soup, but since i m sum1 who seldom drink the bowl of soup accompanying my noodles, shall not comment on dat.
i didnt try the spareribs noodle at science canteen b4, so no comments.
tried the claypot chicken at science canteen b4 though. another 'long-queue' stall. but the claypot is not bad, 4 dat price. i only tried it a few times thru out my 4yrs there, coz science fac is very far! but it didnt leave me with any bad memories, so guess its pretty ok. seldom u find claypot with so much veg rite? but i m more of a meat person, so only complain is chicken too little!
after dat, they featured another dish from NUS students' 'fav' haunt, clementi central!
and there pops up a dish of Sesame oil chicken (ma you ji)!
since i m so free 2day due to cock-ups from colleagues, i took a bus down specially to try it for lunch coz i love ma you!

here's the famous Ma Yao Gai (ma you ji in Cantonese)! okok i know it doesnt look very nice in the pics lah, but wat u expect from a 2-megapixel camera fone rite? but honestly, it doesnt look nice in 'real life' too, it really looks like a pot of black sauce with 8 small pieces of chickens floating in it. and i waited for 20mins for this pot! (ok, prob coz i came during lunch time)

here's a closer look a 1 of the tiny pieces of chicken (ok, abit blur i know) on a bed of sauce-drenched rice. honestly, its not really dat nice.
they use mainly chicken wings cut up into small pieces, which means there r very little meat compared to a clutter of bones. 1 big minus point for me.
and the sauce tastes more of oyster+dark sauce instead of sesame oil. the only tell-tale sign is prob the sea of oil floating on top of the black sauce. thought its called Sesame oil chicken? shrugz. but 1 thing good about the sauce is dat it tastes pretty well with the bowl of plain rice. prob coz its salty? lol.
it comes with a saucer of chilli sauce, which is pretty potent, but tastes very suspiciously like chicken rice chilli (on a side-note, theres a roast stall in that same coffeeshop selling roast duck, roast chicken and roast meat, maybe they 'kope' the chilli from there? lol)
but once again, food is very subjective, so if u guys wan to go and try for urself, here's the details:
Ming Ji Claypot Zhu Zha Tang
