rented a Suzuki Swift with the OH to tour round the island combing for food, but due to lack of time and limited stomach space, we didnt end up as many places as we would like to. nway, this post is full of snippets, so comments will be short, to the point, and let the pics do the talking.
1st place, Queenstown popiah stall at Blk 40A Margaret Drive Food Ctr

the popiah was supposed to be famous, and went on tv b4...

but i tink the pics look nicer den it really was.
next, dim sum supper at Wen Dao Shi (or Wan Dou Sek in Canto), at 126 (so appropriate) Sims Ave, along Geylang Area

chicken claws for her, but i didnt touch it at all, eewww.

char siew cheong fun, had abit of it...so-so only, the ratio of char siew to cheong fun skin was like 1:4! the only special thing was the sauce, which was diff fr all the other black sauces i ate b4 with cheong fun.

har gow...a miserable piece of prawn in a sticky piece of skin....noting to rave abt oso....at least the prawn was relatively fresh.

crabmeat siewmai. skin was stick oso, pork filling abit salty, but at least they used abit of REAL crabmeat. how i know dat? coz i found bits of crab shells in it. "__"

xiao long bao. a great disappointment, coz my impression of xiao long baos was dat there shld be a very 'gao'(thick) and flavourful soup inside it, such dat when u cut it open, the soup juz ooozes out like a mini waterfall! but this 1? no soup at all. juz salty pork filling again. sigh. overall, this place is a disappointment for the relatively high prices they charge. the Mongkok Dim Sum further down Geylang area( near You Tiao Da Wang) is much nicer.
wanted to start the next day with famous porridge from Changi Village, but the food ctr under renovation, so settled for this chicken rice stall opp it, at Blk 2 Changi Village Road

didnt wanna eat too much, so we both shared a plate of rice and 1/4 chicken.

the chicken was very tender, melt-in-ur-mouth kind, although i tink it was becoz they gave us the thigh & drumstick area. and its really not as bloody as it looks, dun worry.

the rice, when it 1st arrived at our table, smelled pretty good, but when i took the 1st bite, i realised there wasnt much taste to it actually. oh well. and its pretty ex, coz the whole set cost us $7.50, and we didnt even ask for the drumstick! oh, but their soup is free flow! not much msg, coz pretty plain, tastes like diliuted veg soup, lol.
went to try the Ghim Moh Mkt @ Blk 20 Ghim Moh Rd, intro-ed by Jeanette. she tried the tau huay at the stall below coz nette found it quite smooth, but she didnt tink it was very smooth wor. and from the pics she took, i dun tink it looks very smooth too. maybe the uncle drop std for that day bah, lol.

heres where i had my Ipoh Hor Fun lunch! got newspaper cuttings and queue de wor!

Ipoh Hor Fun with prawns and chicken for only $2.50.

dun u tink the prawns look big?? haha dun be fooled by the pic, its half the size in reality!

another dessert stall nette intro-ed me...this 1 was much better.

cheng tng on a hot day, refreshing! pretty generous amounts of agar agar, sago, dried longans, barleys, etc. not too sweet, but sweet enough for me. :)
last stop b4 we returned the car, Ci Nai HK Cafe @ East Coast Park Service Rd, next to Macs.

the interesting and colourful deco on the wall, and a big tv screen!

interesting signs on the glass panels of HK's famous areas. heres Sha Tin and Nu Yan Gai (Lady's Street)

and not forgetting, the famous Tsim Sha Tsui!

my drink, Mango King! which was supposed to be ice-blended mango juice with mango cubes and mango ice cream

honestly, the pic looks nicer den it is again. too much ice, too little mango, too milky ice-cream.

HK pan-fried Carrot cake. another disappointment.

noting to wow abt, turns dry when left for sumtime. without the chilli sauce, prob not much taste.

HK Curry Sotong balls. when expectations meet disappointment.

we didnt order this at 1st, but since i was craving to try it and was whining abt it, she had to let me order it to try. in the end, i wished i didnt. it juz tastes like deep-fried frozen sotong balls drenched in super oily prata curry. sigh. i hope the ones in HK will be better. was overall disappointed with this cafe too. but since they r supposedly better in their main courses, i might come bk 1 more time to try the main dishes again.
